  On July 18th Rev. Spearman was with us. I remember him saying to us, “I will contact Robby regarding the Federal removing/remand question.” Today, August 19th; time-9:51 pm, he is not with us on this earth! Al and I miss him deeply!

  I heard of him as the President of NC NAACP and learned how he was devoted to justice for all. Then when the October 23 election was a shamble of fairness and transparency I got to see a man of integrity stand up to the National leadership of the NAACP. Holding 2 elections within hours of each other was an abomination. I observed Rev. Dr. T Anthony Spearman speak up for this injustice. Now I am left puzzled by his demise. I pray for his family that they find peace and comfort.

  On behalf of the Latino Immigrant community, we would like to thank and recognize Rev.Dr. T Anthony Spearman for standing and fighting alongside the Latino and Immigrant community, against persecution by ICE, upholding Temporary Protection Status (TPS), and against anti-immigrant bills in the state.

  Rev.Dr. Spearman helped bring to light the lack of humanity when NC state representatives attempted to strip the community of their dignity. It was Dr. Spearman’s leadership, compassion, and moral obligation to implement the biblical calling to be our brother’s keeper, that put him on the frontline alongside those being persecuted.

  Our community witnessed Rev.Dr. Spearman’s commitment to equality, and TRUTH in carrying out the mission of the NAACP, is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of minority citizens of the United States. Eliminating racial prejudice, racial hatred, and racial discrimination. His actions in adhering to the mission of the NAACP brought comfort and our Latino Immigrant community together.

  We often repeat Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”. We believe that the members of the Justice Coalition take that to heart and live it out to the limits of their abilities.
  However, very few people you will ever encounter take such deep and personal offense to injustice in all of its manifestations, whenever and wherever he found it, as Rev. Dr. T Anthony Spearman. He left no right action undone. When he saw injustice, he went straight at it.
  Rev. Dr. Spearman’s selflessness and courage bring to mind a quote from another casualty in the fight for justice, The anti-Nazi theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer admonished that “We are not to simply bandage the wounds of victims of injustice, we are to drive a spoke into the wheel itself.”. In the brief time that we were blessed to know him, we watched him driving that spoke again and again. The way he lived his life is both an example to be emulated, and an obligation to be fulfilled. God grant us the strength, the wisdom, the courage, and the stamina to fulfill it.

  Although I only knew the Rev Dr Spearman a short time, I count my blessings that I got to know this man of God. He was a tireless worker against injustice. A man of high moral standards yet someone that displayed humility in the true sense of the word.
  Matthew 25:23 – “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
